Superior Court Judge Jackie Shogan Ends Bid for Supreme Court

Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge Jackie Shogan filed paperwork today to remove her name from the ballot as a candidate for Supreme Court Justice. Below is Judge Shogan’s statement on her withdrawal.

It has been a pleasure to travel to every part of Pennsylvania to discuss my candidacy for Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice. I am honored by those who took up the cause in supporting my candidacy by voting for me through the endorsement process, circulating and signing my nomination petitions, passing out literature and talking to their friends and neighbors. I will forever be thankful for their assistance.

When I ran for the Superior Court two years ago, I did not expect to be a candidate this year; however, my service on the Superior Court has given me a greater appreciation for the importance of the administration of Pennsylvania’s courts. I felt that I brought a unique perspective, a record of integrity and commitment to reform that could provide leadership to improve our judicial system.

As this race for Supreme Court progressed, I continually weighed the impact of a statewide race on my family, on my current responsibilities as a Superior Court Judge, and to my political party. It has become clear that waging the type of race required to win the primary is not in the best interest of any of the parties involved at this time.

I am honored in the trust and support that voters have placed in me by electing me to the Superior Court, and I will continue to work within my current position to uphold the law and improve the quality of Pennsylvania’s judicial system. I wish the remaining four candidates running for Supreme Court the best in their endeavors.

Jackie Shogan is a Judge of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. She resides in Murrysville, PA with her husband, Dr. Jeffery Shogan, three children, mother and husband’s father.

These decisions are not simply the dry material covered in law school seminars —they help shape almost every aspect of life in Pennsylvania. From sentences for violent crime to jury awards for liability and decisions about child custody, the Court has a real impact on each of us."
